MediaPlayer underneath the hood vary depending on the device manufacturer and its really unknown what additional dsps they are running before outputting the audio. Most audio players use the MediaPlayer api which doesnt even use the MediaCodec apis nor AudioTrack. I think most android apps use the default MediaCodec decoder + AudioTrack. What DOES impact quality is the resampling and other dsp processing that is done to the audio before being sent out through the output api. Buffer size does not impact quality, it affects latency. The ENCODER does have a quality impact but decoding wise your output is going to be essentially the same bitwise regardless of the decoder (assuming it follows the spec of the format).
